We finally visited Tim Ho Wan, the famed Hong Kong dim sum restaurant (-^o^-).
The first outlet in Singapore opened in Plaza Singapura last year, and long queues seem to be its permanent feature. Almond B, his sister and me visited the Westgate outlet recently, at the 'opportune' moment when we saw that there were not many people in the queue at that time. But the queue formed up pretty quickly thereafter. The dim sum was decent and we enjoyed our meal.
Almond B liked the 'char siew bun' (Baked Bun with BBQ Pork), which happens to be a popular item on the menu too. And I was glad I finally had a taste of the osmanthus cake ("桂花糕"). This is something I saw in Hong Kong TV period dramas, portrayed as a delicacy and I have been wondering how it actually tastes like. Though it's called a "cake" in the menu, it's actually jelly with dried osmanthus flowers. The jelly has a refreshing sweetness to it. The taste of small, dried flowers in the jelly is quite unique though, and may not be to everyone's liking. I didn't quite expect it too (lol).
Our verdict after the first visit is we will return… and we will consider the queue as well =)
